Camera comparison: Ricoh Caplio R6 vs Nikon coolpix 3700

DSCN2454.JPG
Baseline image: Nikon Coolpix 3700 at full wide (35mm). Not a bad image overall, I was always pleased with the performacne of this camera. The trim on the grarge has purple fringe, some deatils are not sharp. Pleasing, slighly red overall color. (click for full size)

Ricoh Caplio R6 at equivalent zoom. The telephone wires are notably sharper and the fringe on the garage trim is much less. The color on the sky and boxes is slightly different. Neither camera is 100% accurate on color, though the Ricoh is closer in this case.

Ricoh at full wide (28mm). Compare to 35mm wide on the Nikon above.
R0010116.JPG
Ricoh at full optical zoom. (200mm, 7x). The 7x zoom lens has a lot more reach than the Nikon (below).

Nikon indoor shot, with flash.
R0010131.JPG
Ricoh indoor shot, with flash. Amazingly similar to the Nikon, though the flash on the Ricoh is less powerful.
DSCN2456.JPG
Nikon indoor shot with flash off. Very nice exposure and pleasingly accurate colors. This is one of the Nikon's real strong points.
R0010127.JPG
Ricoh indoor shot with flash off. Exposure is brigher (perhaps too much so) and color is too yellow.
R0010128.JPG
Ricoh with "auto-high" ISO setting. Camera selected ISO 400, 1/3 shutter speed.
R0010129.JPG
Manually set to maximum 1600 ISO. 1/13 shutter speed. As expected the image is grainy, and color accuacy suffers.
R0010080.JPG
Another shot wih the Ricoh. Point & shoot, auto flash.
R0010083.JPG
Another test of the flash. Dark room with flash illumination only. The flash is not real strong and struggles to illumate the far end of the room.

Sunset on lake Michigan. Very Peaceful.

Liz falling off the tube trying to get into the boat. I think I was supposed to be helping insead of fooling with the camera. Fast camera startup time made this shot possible.

The wide angle works well for taking pictueres in confined spaces.
R0010152.JPG
The Macro mode is also quite incredible. This was taken by tossing the camera insde the bowl of strawberries and pushng the shutter release.

A quick 'snapshot' of Ladybird. Full auto, point & shoot. This was the first picture I took with the camera.

Here is another one of the "cool" dog.

It's amazing they can fit a 7x zoom in such a small space.

It is actually thinner than my Cel phone.
